Wow it has been a whirlwind since Thanksgiving came and went! My schedule at work changed just about every week to staff for the busy holiday season of 80-150 calls in queue, shopping for Christmas gifts from amazon.com, meeting with family and friends, preparing meals and decorating the home! Love this time of year! In the Felger household among the hustle and bustle have been the makings of some changes.
This summer Kevin and I started going to a new church called Leave a Mark Church (non denominational). We heard about it from the past Biker Sundays we have attended. We have always like their vision and were impressed with their service to the community and sharing God's love. We also knew a few families and friends that also attend from our Grace Church family and enjoyed fellowship with them again. We met with the pastor Steve Combs and the leaders of the small groups once a week for about a month and enjoyed meeting a lot of new people. Later Kevin started helping with the youth and I in the children's ministry and loved being able to play apart in ministry again which we missed in the other church we were attending. We decided in November to become members and our church (which meets in a school right now) is going to break off into another campus now in Grove City and Kevin and I are part of a team of 50 to help and serve at the new campus! So exciting! We will be meeting in the YMCA for now and service will be in the evening so the pastor can preach at both until we can figure out how to satellite from the main campus on Sunday mornings. This concept is adopted from the Mars Hill Church in WA and Acts 29 Ministries which has helped us out. This will allow us to have the same vision and still be able to grow and reach the whole City of Columbus. More details to come but please be in prayer for us as we take this on as it will be a big change for us and our church and that we would be equipped to reach the people in our community.
We will also be looking into leadership class to become small group leaders and start a small group in Grove City. We were hoping to lead one that meets later in the evening for people with weird schedules like us.
Kevin and I were also recently approached by our friends Lindsey and Jason about helping them out with their growing Bookkeeping business for Small businesses called Harquin. She started the company herself and over a few years started getting an abundance of clientele that Jason was able to quit his job to work for the company as well. Now they need another employee and asked us. I have been working for about 10 hours per week for them since October and like it. Kevin and i agreed to give it a try for a few months and pray about it because Jason and Lindsey want us to work full time for them but that would mean giving up the security, pay, and benefits (my family's service discount) that Verizon offers. However we are looking to start a family soon and this would be ideal as a job for me since I will be a stay at home mother and wife and still bring in a little income. The job itself right now is entering bank statements in Quickbooks and balancing and assigning accounts to the purchases. We are still praying about what God wants us to do. Im feel like this opportunity is an answer to prayer and will allow for more flexibility and less stress but Kevin is a little more conservative and wants to give it time. Pray that we will be in agreement and that the Lord will reveal his will to us. Im hoping we will decide by the end of February as I cannot keep working two jobs for much longer...my house is a mess! :)
Our congregation is going to be fasting together and praying about the new campus, to fill the need of a children's pastor, and to pay off our property this year, they are calling it the Covenant of 12. Its a commitment to fast from Jan 1-12th, spend time with God 12min per day everyday, and fast on the 12th day of the month every month. Im excited to see how the spirit will move in our church, community, and in us.
My New Years resolution is to stop making excuses and to read a book a month!
Whats yours?
So many exciting things to look forward to in 2012!
