OBX - Day 2

Were off! On day two Kevin and I went into Duck to check out some shops and see the million dollar beach houses!

First we went to the hammock store and got to try out a bunch. I so want one!

 Here are the million dollar beach houses right on the beach in Duck. They all had names it was fun to look at and creepily take pictures of! :)

When we got home we saw some guys surfing!

 It was a restful day and rainy to so we stayed in most of the time. The next day Kevin and I got up and went for a walk on the beach. It was 60 degrees and breezy but we were in for a surprise, we spotted several dolphins! The were about 100 yards out from us. It was so cool!

 I made eggs bacon and toast for everyone and then we went to the Wright Brothers Memorial. It was interesting and It was national parks weeks so admission was free! We got to see the gliders and the field where the first flight took place in Kill Devil Hills.

After the memorial we went home ate lunch and then Kevin and I went out to the beach.

Kevin got binoculars from a pawn shop so we could see the birds and Dolphins better!

I made a small castle with my shovel and pail!

Outerbanks Vacation - Day 1

Well we got the car packed and went to bed at 10pm, I tossed and turned got no sleep and we got up at 1am to head out to OBX! Kevin drove first for about 4 hours then it was my turn and I got to watch the sun rise in Virginia...

 When we arrived It was surprisingly not crowded by a lot of spring breakers.  We arrived at about 1:30 but were not allowed to check in till 4 so we went to the welcome center and had a picnic lunch. Then we gathered up pamphlets and coupons of various excursions we might enjoy and piled back into the cramped car and drove down the peninsula.  We found a shop with beach stuff and souvenirs. I bought a sand pale and shovel kit to use at the beach since it will be too chilly to swim. Kevin got a shot glass to add to his collection. Then we got the keys and went to our condo.This condo was amazing! Our room was a spa inspired layout, and it has a sliding door out to the patio with the beach view!

The view was just amazing! The ocean breeze was refreshing. I cant wait to eat breakfast out here and watch the sunrise!

When we were done prancing through the rooms like giddy kids in a candy store I sat on the deck and made a grocery list. Mom Bernard was not feeling well so she went to bed and John (Kevin's brother) watched tv. Kevin and I went to get the groceries at the local Food Lion across the street. When we got back we got pizza, since everyone was exhausted, and just relaxed listening to the sound of the ocean. I kept our window open when going to bed too, it was so neat!

Sprucing up for Spring!

Kevin has been wanting to plant an apple tree in our yard for a while so when we saw they were on sale we couldnt resist any more. We found one that produces Gala, Fuji, and Golden Delicious apples, I didnt know there was such a thing!

We also broke down this year and bought mulch to help with the pesky weeds in the front flower beds.

Hostas are starting to grow!

I like the red color, I think it goes well with our house.

I plan on planting a vine type plant here sometime.

I didnt expect to see my Ivy come back but it did!!

I bought a strawberry plant today too!

We also filled our bird feeders!

Kevin planted tomatoes and they have started to sprout!

Hungry Pajama Eater

 So while on Pinterest one day I found an adorable stuffed monster called a "Pajama Eater." Kids can feed their pajamas to it in the morning and then at night the monster gives it back but others have made them to keep their remotes in or as a backpack. Recently I went to pick up the brand new sewing machine Katrina bought forever ago and used once (lol love you Kat!) and all this flannel fabric thinking I would try my hand at pajama pants but have not gotten around to it and also because one look at the pattern and I was confused. Well upon seeing the Pajama eater I couldnt resist and It would be the perfect gift for Stephanie who turned 2 today, the daughter of our friends Lisa and Stephen! The blogger who came up with the idea had a pattern but it was $8 and I figured there couldn't be too much to it so I decided not to buy it and just figure it out.

I got started right away and went to Joann's spent about two hours because they decided to rearrange the whole store, plus I dont know exactly what I need and what fabric is what. Once I picked out my fabric (cotton) I walked to the other side of the store where they had flannel for $2 per yard and the fabric I picked was $7. So I put my fabric back and looked through the flannel...after 30min nothing matched as well as my original choice soooo I went back and got my other fabric. It was 1 yard for the body, 1/2 yard for the inside, I bought a quarter for the feet, a 12in zipper, white felt, fiber fill, and buttons for the eyes.

So I figured it worked pretty much like making a pillow and it was but with quite a few things to think about. The hardest part was figuring out the mouth and zipper and then sewing the arms and legs on within the seam. This picture is when I had the head done and the inner lining, legs, and arms but trying to decide how it all comes together. I also glued on the felt and button eyes. Worked from 9pm-2:30am and finished this morning working from 9:30-12!

I made a bow with the same fabric from the feet and dont you just love the eyelashes?!

This was the hardest part but Im happy with how it turned out! I did teeth but you could do felt lips too.

Also I dont know how to get the edges round on the foot pads but it still looks ok.

All done! Im planning on making a Pirate for Miri our friends' daughter who loves pirates. And maybe a Transformer for Judah since he starting to go on sleepovers he can take his clothes in it!
