OBX - Day 5

Today we went to Currituck Lighthouse and got to climb to the top!

It was a climb but not as bad as the monument in Indianapolis

Kevin and John were scared of heights so they were plastered to the light house walls and stayed away from the rail.

So pretty! This is the Sound side.

I was not scared of the height so I loved it up there!

In this picture you can see the sound side (right) and the oceanside (left)

Thats the best I could get with him! lol

He feels a little better if Im the one that falls first... :)  If you notice the sunglasses on his shirt...

Well is was pretty windy and the sunglasses are somewhere down there...can you find them? We didnt. :)

Perfect for a post card!
After that we went to a few other shops and then the boys graciously allowed me to check out a bead store! I found a lampwork glass shell that will make a lovely focal and matching glass beads with some fun facets. Cant wait to make it when I get home since I dont have my tools here. Then Kevin and I dropped John off at the condo and we went to lunch at Awful Arthur's which was recommended by one of Kat's friends to us. Let me tell you it was the best fish I have ever had! Better than Red Lobster or Captain D's, so moist and flaky and the batter was tasty too.
Doesn't look like much but it was amazing!
Then it started to storm so we went back home played some games and enjoyed the evening! Cant believe there is only one more day!

OBX - Day 4

This morning Kevin, Mom Bernard, and John woke up at 6am and saw the sunrise.

Notice I did not, I slept in till about 8:30am then made eggs, bacon, and toast for everyone and we ate outside on the deck since it was warmer out. We saw dolphins again everywhere in the water! So fun! Today was supposed to be warmer since the last couple days were pretty windy and in the 60's so we Ventured out to Jockey Ridge National Park. Its a park made of sand dunes and I was amazed at the sight of the dunes! I felt like I was in Egypt or some other desert in a far off place!
excited for whats to come on this gorgeous day!

So sunny! I got a little burn on my face.
Look at this view! This is what we saw when we cleared the bushes from the park entrance!
A bunch of little kids were running down the hill to put their shoes back on and leave when we arrived. There was about 60 little flip flops scattered around the entrance. So we followed suit and took our off but took them with us and started up the hill.

Can I just mention that it is a workout just walking through sand? I have worked muscles in my feet and legs that I didnt know were there!

It was kind of a steep walk up

Once we got over the top this is what we saw! Amazing!

I was pretty excited about the park and how beautiful and different it was but also I was excited to break in my new Koi Kite Kevin and I got Yesterday!

John ran out a distance to see what was on the other side.
I got started right away with my kite! The dunes are known for the wind since there is a hang gliding school there so getting the kite up was a breeze...lol!

Isn't it adorable? I loved it and it would "swim" around in the blue sky!

Having fun with the kite still.
You could spot the hang gliding class going on on some of the dunes!

I got it pretty high! I needed more string.

Kevin taking a crack at it

But poor Koi took a "dive" lol

Kevin playing with the camera

After the park we went to a beach store and I got a new beach hat and Kevin got some sunglasses both for cheap. Then we got charcoal for the grill and headed home to eat lunch. I hung out on the deck for a bit just relaxing and watching the waves. Later Kevin, John, and I went on the beach with the kite and pail and shovel and hung out.
My new hat

The pelicans were quite the entertainment so far this week. They circle close like this then go pretty high in the air then angle their wings and nose dive into the water to catch their lunch! So fun to watch!

Also I am amazed at how many dolphins we were able to spot at multiple times through the day! These were pretty far off but when we didnt have the camera they came really close to shore about 20 ft away from us!

Someone left their kite flying on the beach anchored to a tree stump.

Look at this stud!

Kevin and John played catch on the beach.

Love him! :)

John's creations in the sand

After a few hours at the beach Kevin and John grilled hamburgers and hot dogs and I made pasta salad. It was yummy! What a perfect day!

OBX - Day 3

Kevin and I went to Corolla, NC to take a Mustang tour. We got there too early so we went to a few shops where I bought a Koi Kite to fly tomorrow at Jockey Ridge. There was a lot of cute jewelry that I liked but couldn't buy since I knew I could make it myself at home. One of the shop keepers told us about the 4x4 beach just up the road which is where the road ends onto a beach and you can only continue if you have a 4 wheel drive vehicle. So we went to that beach and hung around for a bit till the tour was ready for us.

Kevin taking some really pretty pictures! Love how the clouds reflect off the water

We headed back around 3 and went on the tour. Our guide was Josh and he was very informative. Apparently the horses used to be able to roam around Corolla as they wish but once the tourists started to come there was an increase in cars hitting the horses so they but up fencing and keep them on a preserve with out roads.
We immediately spotted mustangs on the tour. They do count the mustangs but dont tag them or interfere with them. Your not allowed to feed them because a change in their diet could cause colic and they could die.

The tour included driving through some dunes, on the beach, and through the sand paths or "streets" of the beach houses. Remember you can only vacation out there if you have a 4 wheel drive car. There is a man named Larry who will get you unstuck for $200 if you decide to brave it with just two wheel drive but he doesnt tow you all the way off the beach just out of your current situation so if you get stuck again you may have to start talking prices! lol In peak season he will get 30-40 cars out per day. We got to pass his house on the tour! P.S he is the only one to tow out there too!
Want a beach wedding? you can rent this 22 bedroom beach house for $30,000 per week! It has a kitchen to cater to 200 people.

This is the home of "the Grave Digger" a monster truck driver who vacations here. His bus is decked out with sand tires and 4 wheel drive and he rides it along the beach.

If you live here you will get used to the mustangs showing up in your yard for the green grass

How cute is this! perfect advertising for Isuzu...

In the winter the horses will come up and gather in your car port for heat and shade in the summer.

So pretty! The mustangs are not much bigger than ponies they have short legs and stout bodies and were used for work and hauling.

We got to get close and take pictures with them!

There was about 10 miles of beach we drove on and ran into other tours too. You have the option to rent and drive a jeep if you want you follow a guide and try to find horses.

While driving we ran into these people doing yoga or stretching or something but I though it was funny.
We had a great time and were pretty tired by the end. It was also pretty cold and windy so I stayed inside the rest of the night. We went back home and had chicken for dinner and watched tv.
