Day 2- Carnegie Science Center

We set out on our second day into the city to visit the Carnegie Science Center! It was a rainy cold day and it was a little busy. We stood in line for a good 20 min outside. The main reason we went was to tour a full size submarine! To view all the pictures from today click here.
Taken on top of the sub!

Pittsburgh is behind Kevin

These are the chambers that the torpedoes are loaded into

Tiny door

Kevin is steering us into the Red October!!! AAHH!

check out all the gadgets!

Feel like playing a game with this handsome guy?

Want to sleep in these beds?

Here are the engines

Im fixing Kevin's nautical mistake from before!

Its pretty big

Then we went into the Planetarium to watch a presentation on telescopes. It was cool!

I got to meet R2-D2! we totaly hit it off!

C3PO translated for us....
Then we got our picture taken with Data, Hal9000, Gort, and R2D2 and 3PO!

Gort from "the Day the Earth Stood Still"

Maria from "Metropolis" I did a study on this film in college in my favorite class in 2 years at OSU "Evolution of the Third Reich through Film and Literature"

This was a robot that you could control with a computer
After the Science Center we went on our second attempt to find the Mt. Washington overlook onto the city. The previous day we tried 2 different addresses we found online and neither took us to the right place and we ended up in the city during rush hour, were lost, and driving in circles for an hour before calling it quits and heading back to the hotel! Today we had success! Only wish we had the sunshine from yesterday.
View from Mt. Washington. Nice even on a cloudy day!

and rainy

The houses were very nice along the road with a view...

Then we went to a candy and ice cream shop called Sarrius. It was super busy being that it is Easter weekend and everyone was buying chocolate bunnies and crosses. The line went all the way through the store so we didnt buy anything.
Castle made of candy!

The ice cream parlor didnt have a line so I indulged in a rootbeer float!

I was content!

Kevin didnt see any chocolate chip cookies..... :(

Kevin is 30! So we went to the Zoo of course!

For Kevin's birthday we went to Pittsburgh PA since it was only 3 hours away and we have been to a ton of places in Ohio. We wanted to get out of state somewhere new! We arrived at the hotel at 10pm and when we got to our room it smelled of awful smoke even though Kevin just signed a waiver that he will not smoke in the room or pay $300. Well whoever paid $300 for being in that room prev should have paid more because it was nasty. Kevin went down and asked for another room and it was much better but the stupid desk person gave him a hard time! This was Holiday Inn Express... Bfast the next day was good we had fruit, eggs, and toast.
Then we went to the Pittsburgh Zoo! This is the 5th Zoo we have been to in the USA! Im going to visit as many as I can!
Here is one of the pretty views of spring blossoming trees!

The Fort Pitt Tunnel we went thru to get into the city!

"Blue skies smiling at me!"

We made it to the Zoo!

First was the Tiger! they had 3 cubs about 8 months ago and they were pretty big already, I think this is the mother who is tired and yawning!

Black Rhino!

The beautiful lioness! I metered the white balance on our DSLR and it really made the colors pop! (notice difference from the Tiger Picture)

Loved the baby elephant!

Here is one of the Gibbons! I used to work a little with these while in college with my Zoology Club. Dont let their size fool you! If they dont know you they have a way with pulling your hair and throwing poop at you if you get too close!

Love the gorillas!

The Polar bear finally jumped in! this is the viewing tank under the water!

Sand Shark!

I wanted to pet the seals! this is as close as i got!
There are a few more pictures you can view here of our Zoo trip and a few pictures of the city! Later we went to a lovely Italian Restaurant for Kevin's birthday dinner; Kevin had a steak and I had chicken ala Granny- this was a crusted chicken with granny smith apples and raisins and topped with shredded Wisconsin cheddar. Interesting and delicious!

Dino Easter Eggs!

Today after a lovely lunch with my family we went home to color Easter eggs and not just any Easter eggs but Dinosaur eggs!!! Be jealous! lol :)

First boiled the eggs! Its been so long I had to google how long to boil them

While waiting I took some pictures of the pretty spring blossoms!

We have tons of these already too! :-(

This is from our pear tree

Then I got to work on our new flower pot for the deck.
Yesterday Kevin and I went to Lowes to buys some flowers but I was none too hopeful because my front beds get no sun so I cant get any fun colorful flowers like I want. So I decided to get a planter for the deck so I could have some color since its all sun in the back of the house.

All done! Its a accent plant in the middle surrounded by 4 Hyacinth bulbs, and Ivy. The hyacinth smells amazing!

I found our turtles we got last year at the home and garden show. They were hidden in the garage all this time! Now i got them in the front flower beds.

Decided on keeping it in the corner!

The colors are ready!!
Does it look like Im forcing him into this??

Naw not at all! :-)

I had alot of fun but im not to patient I hated waiting for my egg to dye!

The T-rex ate his finger! This is dangerous business!

One of mine

All of the gang!

Kevin's T-rex

some of our more "artistic" efforts!

and funny ones!

mmmm! can you smell them!

the ivy

Ferns are a shade plant so we found out! I got two and put them in the two pots in the front!

Yay!

Then I had an egg salad sandwich after an eventful day mmm!
